COURSE AND BOOKING QUESTIONS

WHO CAN BOOK?

Our courses are designed for complete beginners to amateurs. You can have 1 months experience or 10 years. The course will suit you whether you just want to learn the basics of digital photography or to develop a hobby.

WHAT KNOWLEDGE OF PHOTOGRAPHY DO I NEED?

For a Beginners' Course you don't need any prior knowledge, we'll teach you all you need to get started. For the Intermediate Courses, we expect students to have a basic understanding of exposure, aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

HOW MUCH HANDS-ON PRACTICE WILL I GET ON THE COURSE?

Photography, perhaps more than any other medium, requires hands-on practice. There are many things which need explaining, of course, but without putting these things into practice, none of it means a great deal. We therefore start the day with a two hours tuition followed by a break and three hours of practical location photography.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

We advise you to bring something warm and weatherproof for when we will be shooting on location (just in case!).

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS REALLY BAD?

London has varied weather and to avoid disappointment we try and run the trails in most conditions. Actually, some 'challenging' weather conditions provide great photo opportunities. In very rare circumstances the weather means we have to cancel a course, in which case you receive a full refund (we will also try to inform as soon as possible in this event)

CAN I BUY A COURSE PLACE AS A GIFT?

Yes of course you can, many of our customers have bought a gift voucher for their partner or friend. Our online payment system makes buying gift vouchers an easy process.

WILL I BE ABLE TO SHOOT LIKE A PRO AFTER THE COURSE?

Practice makes perfect, as we all know. Many of our students choose to come back to the same course, to review areas they still feel shaky on. Very few people are satisfied immediately - most of us learn from our mistakes and most students want to build on what they've learned on the location shoot. With a strong will and perseverance you'll get there!

EQUIPMENT QUESTIONS

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA IS BEST FOR THE COURSE?

Any digital camera is good for our Beginners Course. SLR and compact classes are run on separate days.
For our Advance Course an SLR (single lens reflex) camera is best. An SLR camera is identifiable from its ability to detach and change lenses. If you are still unsure about your camera please contact us with camera make and model and we can tell you what type of camera you own.

DO I NEED A FILM OR DIGITAL CAMERA?

Our courses are tailored for digital cameras. Whether it's a "point and shoot" (compact) or a DSLR, the obvious advantage of digital is you get to see your results instantly.

WHAT LENSES ARE BEST FOR THE COURSES?

You can bring any and all of your lenses. The ideal lens range is between 18mm-85mm.

WHAT OTHER EQUIPMENT DO I BRING?

Well first, please don't forget your camera and lenses. Also, bring enough memory cards and a spare battery or battery charger. The last thing you want is to run out of charge. Bring your camera manual, in case you have a camera the tutor is unfamiliar with, or an error message pops up in camera.
For the Intermediate Course it might be handy to bring a tripod and a flash gun and filters if you own them.

CAN I USE THE PHOTOS I TAKE ON THE COURSE?

You are permitted to use all the photos you take for your portfolio, website and promotional brochures. However, before you can sell a photo to a third party or stock library, you must obtain written permission, in the form of a model release form, from any person that appears on your picture.
